چکیده
ABSTRACT Vriesea reitzii is an endemic bromeliad from the Atlantic Rainforest. The objective of this research was to evaluate cryopreservation using method direct immersion its seeds, collected capsules at 120, 135, and 150 days after anthesis (DAA). water content determined before cryopreservation, while germination percentage, speed index (GSI), total soluble carbohydrates were quantified cryopreservation. highest percentage moisture (17.6%) observed in 120 DAA, (89.6%) GSI (17.0) DAA. Optical transmission electron microscopy analyses performed, no cell damage or changes morpho-histological ultrastructural levels process. From these results, V. seeds can be classified as orthodox (+LN) efficient tool for ex situ conservation species.

Development of microsatellites for Verbenoxylum reitzii (Verbenaceae), a tree endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest1
UNLABELLED PREMISE OF THE STUDY Microsatellite markers were developed for Verbenoxylum reitzii (Verbenaceae), a tree endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, to investigate their usefulness in population genetic studies. The loci were tested for cross-amplification in the related genera Recordia and Duranta. • METHODS AND RESULTS Eleven polymorphic microsatellite markers were isolated fro...
متن کاملIsolation and characterization of microsatellite loci in Pitcairnia albiflos (Bromeliaceae), an endemic bromeliad from the Atlantic Rainforest, and cross-amplification in other species.
Eight microsatellite markers were isolated from Pitcairnia albiflos, an endangered endemic bromeliad species restricted to 'inselberg' rock outcrops in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The number of alleles observed for each locus ranged from two to 12. Average observed and expected heterozygosities were 0.408 and 0.663, respectively. The cross-amplification test in 16 taxa suggests that th...
متن کاملA new genus of water mites (Acari, Hydrachnidia, Wettinidae) from bromeliad phytotelmata in the Brazilian Atlantic rainforest
Adults of Bromeliacaruscardoso gen. n., sp. n. are described from phytotelmata of Quesneliaarvensis (Vellozo) Mez. (Bromeliaceae) in the subtropical area of the Atlantic rainforest, São Paulo State, Brazil. The new genus Bromeliacarus is proposed and diagnosed, based primarily on the autapomorphic presence of 7-9 pairs of acetabula flanking the gonopore. A possible relationship between Bromelia...
متن کاملA new species of Xystonotus Wolcott, 1900 (Acari, Hydrachnidia, Mideopsidae) from bromeliad phytotelmata in Brazilian Atlantic rainforest.
The rosette architecture of some bromeliad species traps water and organic matter from the canopy in leaf axils (forming phytotelmata) and harbors many species of invertebrate animals (Frank & Lounibos 2009). Some water mites are adapted to live in phytotelmata; typically recorded from water-filled tree holes, bromeliad tanks, and a range of plant axils. Karl Viets (1939) was the first acarolog...
متن کاملBromeliad Catchments as Habitats for Methanogenesis in Tropical Rainforest Canopies
Tropical epiphytic plants within the family Bromeliaceae are unusual in that they possess foliage capable of retaining water and impounded material. This creates an acidic (pH 3.5-6.5) and anaerobic (<1 ppm O(2)) environment suspended in the canopy. Results from a Costa Rican rainforest show that most bromeliads (n = 75/86) greater than ~20 cm in plant height or ~4-5 cm tank depth, showed prese...
